The word dinosaur means terrible lizard. The English scientist Richard Owen made up the name in 1842.
Color ideas
Nobody knows exactly what color dinosaurs were, so choose freely: green, brown, orange or striped.
Who is who among the dinosaurs
- Tyrannosaurus: One of the biggest meat eaters. It had a huge head and tiny front legs with two fingers.
- Triceratops: It had three horns and a big bony frill around its neck, and it ate plants.
- Stegosaurus: It had bony plates along its back and sharp spikes on its tail.
- Brachiosaurus: Its front legs were longer than its back legs, so it held its head high and ate leaves from treetops.
- Pterodactyl: It was not a dinosaur but a flying reptile from the same time, with wings made of skin.
- Ankylosaurus: Its back was covered in bony plates, and its tail ended in a heavy bony club.
- Baby dinosaur hatching: Dinosaurs hatched from eggs, just like birds and turtles today.
- Parasaurolophus: It had a long hollow crest on its head that it may have used to make sounds.
- Spinosaurus: It had a tall sail on its back and a long snout, and it hunted fish.
- Dinosaur and volcano: Dinosaurs lived on Earth for more than 160 million years.
